Production Engineer - Automotive Door Assembly

Location: Erlanger, KY

What you will be doing as the Production Engineer - Automotive Door Assembly:

  • Investigate capacity, make vs. buy, and process plans and costs.

  • Develop and implement process and production preparation plans for new automotive doors assembly tools, equipment, and products.

  • Provide support and assistance to technical center and other departments with research and development activities.

  • Conducts research to develop and test new processes and procedures.

  • Develop new or modify current methods, techniques, and procedures.

  • Manage tool and equipment sourcing.

  • Lead supplier selection process including developing project quotations, Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Scope of Requirements (SOR), and negotiating final costs for capital, tooling, and utility investment.

  • Select suppliers for tooling, check fixtures, and equipment as related to doors assembly.

  • Create, submit, and manage Ringis, Purchase Requisitions(PR), Purchase Orders (PO), Capacity Plan, and Process Plan for tools and equipment.

  • Improve existing or develop new equipment and tooling including managing Engineering Change Instructions (ECI).

  • Prepares technical reports as a result of research, development, and preventative maintenance investigations.

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence/reoccurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.

  • Create and manage project budgets.

  • Create, manage, and/or update Engineering Quick Change (EQC) documents, plant layouts, Process PFMEA documents, RFQ, ECI quotations, open issues documents, and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.

What you will need as the Production Engineer - Automotive Door Assembly:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

  • Greater than six (6) years of relevant work experience required.

  • Greater than two (2) years of manufacturing experience in automotive interior components (e.g., injection, assembly, seating, trim, tooling, welding, and other miscellaneous components), managing projects from design to production.

  • General understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and welding equipment and tooling including design, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes (and all secondary related processes) relating to automotive interiors.

  • Basic working knowledge of cost structures is preferred.

  • Basic working knowledge of PFMEA development is preferred.

  • Ability to order and track equipment and material for the manufacturing facilities.

  • Ability to read component, assembly and equipment drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Practical experience applying Toyota Production System (TPS) principles in an automotive environment.

  • Excellent math skills.

  • Effective time management skills.

  • Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, Internet, etc.).

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and 3D Modeling software.

  • CATIA experience is preferred.
